Christening

After seeing all those lovely christening dresses in the shops specializing in Brussels lace, my hands just itched to get started on something similar. Eventually I found a lovely dress I could crochet in a magazine, one I could make, because let's face it, those dresses in the shops were made by specialized persons and I was only a beginner.
Then I was pregnant with my 4th child, my daughter. That is 32 years ago!
Although I have this christening dress for so many years it never came to mind to use it again and only recently when my children were visiting, my daughter spoke about it, about using it when her child is born (second half of december). Lena was only a few weeks old then and when my daughter-in-law saw it, she wanted to use it too for Lena. Looks like it's becoming an heirloom now.

I found this wonderfully, beautiful lace in a shop and  couldn't resist.

If you wondered what the scallop is doing .... during april and may of this year (2013) I did a pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela in Spain and I wore my St James' Scallop all the way on my backpack, now it will be used in the ceremony.

Twins

Doing a blog is more difficult than I thought, but even though there will be long pauses in this one, I must try and post all my "crafts" here. Actually when I walk through my house there are many little memories of things I made. Mostly it reminds me of a time gone by and how I worked on it, of the times when my children were young and the moments when all went peaceful with the children playing and I had my moments of crafting. What perfect moments of happiness and contentment.
The kids became adults and I am blessed with a number of grandchildren.

The first crafts most children learn is most probably spool knitting. When the twins hadn't done enough after a year I decided to make it into little carpets next to their beds

Flower/Bloemie

Finally I got into making a new blog post! Well; it was summer and not only that, I have been away for a while, to Switzerland .... working there. But I was busy on a WIP for my daughter, christmas thingies and a shawl for myself, but not tof them are finished.
I'll post about "Flowers"
Some time ago I found this really great blog with a beautiful bear in african flower motives. Then I just finished a cushion cover in this motives and was looking for more patterns in it.
Here is the blog:

My first purchase was the bear, but the hippo look so cuddly that I bought that pattern as well.

Not long before I bought the Lucy pack of Stylecraft Special DK and I had all these bright colours and a pattern to match, thus, Flower came alive.

It looks almost like she's wearing lipstick. :)
When my grandchildren saw her, she was instantly baptised into "BLOEMIE" or Flower in english.

As you can see, she is a much loved and cuddled hippo.

Flower wreath 1

So this is the place where I'll post my creations from now on. Knitting, embroidery and crochetting keep me busy in my "quiet times" or when I watch TV or a film or .... whenever I can.
This wreath I have finished the beginning of the year already and I'm quiet proud of how it turned out. I used several patterns of flowers which I found on the internet and some of them are my own inventions.

This blog is also to keep track of the patterns I use from other persons, I find it hard to remember which patterns I used and where they are, so here I can give credit to those very creative persons who helps me in learning how to do it myself. So here goes.....

Daffodils are from Lucy - Lucy's daffodils
Roses are from Lucy - Lucy's May roses
Japanese Quince flowers - Lucy's Japanese Quince flowers
Little balls - Lucy's balls ...... Little balls from Lucy's blog

What a delightful little flower to crochet! A certain addition in any wreath I make and you can make them in every colour.
Star flowers - Pinkfluffywarrior's star flowers

Great bird patterns and a pleasure to make.
But..... what has birds to do with flowers? I should have added a few butterflies, next time better. Yes, I've started a next one.
Mini birds - Bunny Mummy's mini birds

Violets! It can not be that I don't use a violet, such beautiful flowers. These came out rather big in comparison with the other flowers.
Leaves

The second pic has a leave that I love to use on a wreath, but ...... I have no idea where I got it from and I have only one of it. One late night I croheted it from a pattern when I was searching for leaves and when I wanted to actually use it, I discovered that I never saved the page.

While I wanted to fill up the entire wreath, I needed little things to fill the open spaces. I started with a little ball and only made it halfway, maybe a bit more than half and then I added stamens. Campanula is also such a great favourite of mine, so I started with a little ball again and then I increased stictches and added a picot round.

Thanks to Lucy and Bunny Mummy for their very easy to follow tutorials, it's brilliant, so easy to follow and set people like me on the way of being able to create my own ideas.
